Welcome back to 2012
January 30 2012
Dear Parents of children in Room 5 2012,
Welcome back for the new school year. I look forward to teaching your child and I hope this year is a healthy, happy and successful year for all of you.
Room 5 is a composite class of years 7 & 8 children.
I am the teacher responsible for all curriculum areas except PE and Sport, for which Mrs Susannah Debenham is responsible on Thursday afternoons.
This year Homework will be related to daily classroom work. There will be no set format; it may be completing work begun in class, researching work for the next day, working on a project, spelling, mathletics, etc. I expect each student to take responsibility for this homework as it is an important part of preparing them for Secondary school. Work will NOT be set every night and I would expect that when it is set, 15 minutes would be enough time to complete assigned tasks.
I would like to take this opportunity to ask you that your child(ren) read as often as possible for pleasure. This is a habit that above all improves their literacy skills and makes learning so much easier and more successful for them.
The school is again subscribing to the Mathletics on line programme. This course is closely allied to the new New Zealand Maths curriculum and each child has his/her own course of work tailored to individual needs. I am able to monitor closely how each student is coping and change courses when and where appropriate. The ‘live mathletics’ is the fun aspect of this programme and certainly does improve basic facts but more important are the’ tests’ associated with different topics of study.
(See attached sheet so you too can keep track of your child’s progress)
Technology for the Year 7 and 8s is on Wednesday morning from 9 till 12.
I’d like to remind you all that Room 5 has a blog site which is updated weekly with what’s happening and photos.
If you have any concerns regarding your child’s education or behaviour I would be glad to meet with you. Please feel free to make an appointment to do this so that I can ensure I am available to discuss these issues with you.
Kind Regards
Kathleen Bradley.
