Our Cycle Safety Experience

This week Room 5 learnt about Cycle Safe Programme introduced by the Christchurch City Council. Our learning intention is to edit our written work properly. Editing our work means checking our punctuation such as full stops and capital letters, spelling and grammar. We also have to make sure that we have beginning, middle and ending. Here are two examples of our work today:

We are learning to edit our story properly.

It was the first day back at school. We were doing a cycle safety for the whole day. Cycle safety was a program run by Christchurch City Council. We were learning how to be safe and responsible bikers on the road. The trainers Christina, Monique, Yasmin, Mike and Steve sorted us into groups. Once we were sorted into groups we got a helmet and bike fitted for us.

When we got on our bikes our trainers laid out a track  with cones and showed us  what to do and where to ride around it. We were being tested on what we could do and to see if were eligible to ride on the road.

When it came to the day we had to ride on the road  we got told it was postponed to September 13. So we stayed inside and  did quizzes on the road rules and parts of the bike and  everything else we learned.

It was a cold day. The class was heading outside to learn some cool new bike rules and road safety tricks to help us be aware of how it works on the road. I grab a helmet, along with a bike of my choice. I was pumped to see what was waiting for me. We were separated into four or three groups at least and in each group, we got taught by different teachers.

Meanwhile, I learnt how to use my hands as signs, as to if I was ever riding a bike on the road, I would use my hands as signs to signal the cars. I learnt so many awesome new tricks! I was very interested into what they had to tell us about bikes, because I had never really acknowledged how important road safety on a bike is, and how complicated and hard it may be.

At the end of the day, I had learnt so many new things! We got to play fun games on the bikes and have a freestyle ride on the big field.

I had an amazing experience! The teachers were all so lovely and I cannot wait until when we get to ride the bikes on the road!

Thursday Sports - 26 June 2014

We play netball and football competing with other Year 7 and 8 students from other schools every Thursday.

We were helping each other put on our bibs.

Mrs Debenham is our coach every time we play.

Lilly and Jenna were on reserve.

That's a good shot, Samantha. We won this game 37-4, against Cathedral College B.

The football game with Isidora and the boys was a success too. We won 7-0 against Discovery One.

Good game, good game, good game.....

Mr Debenham was our coach.

We had so much fun although it was muddy.

It's time to go back to school.
