Cycle Safety

Room 5 had the last Cycle Safety session on September 17. Some of us were able to go on the road and followed the rules when on the bike. We had the opportunity to be guided by our instructors on the correct ways to look out for when bikingand becoming more confident. This is a lifetime skill and we are thankful for the valuable lessons we learned.

We listened carefully to the instructors.

We were all set to go on the road.

Some of us practised inside the school ground. It's enjoyable learning how to ride on the bike.

Les Miserables Practice

Room 5 will be performing Les Miserables on Wednesday September 25 at 7 PM for the families and friends. The school will be watching at 11 AM.

It has been hard work for everyone with Michelle and Lucy directing. The talents are varied and amazing. Here are a few of the scenes during the practice.

"Master of the House...."

"Seldom do you see.....honest men like me!"

"The Bargaining....she's far too dear to us, we cannot let you take her."

"Now, look who's here, the little Madame herself!"

"I might have guessed your little secret....."

"There is a life about to start, when tomorrow comes..."

We are looking forward to our performance this on September 24.

Should Microchip Bracelets be Used in Schools?
By Lexi
We are learning to express our opinion and
support it with reasons.

If students were to wear the bracelets, why is it just that school north of Christchurch? Soon maybe the whole of New Zealand might as Well be wearing them. Clearly teachers don't trust the students enough.

Yes, sure use them if you know that the students have been bunking school, but if not they are being very untrustworthy. Not many students want to be watched six hours a day, five days a week. Personally I would feel being spied on.

My opinion is that no, they should not be using the microchip bracelets. The teachers need to realise that students at school make mistakes and then fix them up themselves. More than half the parents at this school don’t like the idea. Why would you spend $7000 for a whole school  on microchip bracelets that could be easily broken or lost. Why not use that money for the school or sports equipment? The teachers and parents should have trust in the students. I personally would not like to be watched and monitored. Therefore I disagree.

Should microchip bracelets be used by children to keep track of their behaviour?

Should microchip bracelets be used by children to track on their behaviour? Should they? I said to myself I didn't know. So I thought of the good things and the bad things about them.

I thought of the positive things first. If children did use microchip bracelets the teachers could see if someone is bullying or being nice. They could see if someone went out of class and went somewhere else and they would know if someone is stealing or doing something good.

Then I thought of the bad things about have microchip bracelets. If children didn't have microchip bracelets they couldn't really tell when someone is doing wrong. If they have microchip bracelets they will spend a lot of money.

Honestly I think we shouldn't wear microchip bracelets because I think we are responsible enough to not wear them. If every child has it in a school it will cost a lot of money.

If every child has it in a school it will cost a lot of money for the school which could be used for things to improve students' learning.

Athletics 2014

Our Athletics Day was held on Monday November 3 at Catholic Cathedral College playground. Two buses took us there.

There were four events, high jump, long jump, shotput and discus. A few students from CCC organised the different events and helped us.

Lunch time.....

The running race was held in the afternoon.

Everyone enjoyed the events during the Athletics Day. Some parents took time to watch their children.

All New Zealand Citizens Who Don't Vote Should Pay a Fine

All New Zealand citizens who do not vote should pay a fine.
By Isidora
We are learning to persuade our readers with our opinion and use persuasive vocabulary.

As you all know the election is coming up soon on Saturday September 20. Some are very happy and excited, but then again others aren’t.

All New Zealand citizens should have the right to vote or not to vote. Some aren’t very interested in the election because they don’t usually vote, or they just don’t really want to vote in something they don’t really care about. Others may be interested to exercise their right to vote.

I’m utterly certain in saying that we should not have to be fined for not voting even if it’s only a little bit of money because some people don’t want to take the time to vote. Therefore they shouldn’t be fined for something they don’t want to do and that's their right.

So now here is the opinion of Lucy who thinks that non-voting citizens should be fined.

All New Zealand citizens who don’t vote should get a fine.

We are learning to persuade readers with strong vocabulary.

Voting is a very interesting thing. You think that all people would vote. I mean you have the power. If you are old enough, it should be an honour to be able to vote. Imagine if you had a favourite party, and they lost to your least favourite party, by two votes. If you had voted, it could have been a draw.

I think that everyone should vote on Saturday September 20. I think that you should be punished for not voting. Though it really depends on how much they are fined. They are fined twenty dollars. I almost think they should be getting fined more! Oh don’t worry about voting, its just people making decisions for the whole country for three years.

I think that yes, people should be fined, because it is the fate of the whole country on your hands. Why wouldn’t you vote? The only reason I can see to why you wouldn’t vote, is that you couldn’t reach a voting place. If you got fined, everyone would have an opinion, and the voting system would be fair. What if all the people who were for Labour, decided that they couldn’t be bothered voting, and all the National people thought it would be a great day for a vote!

I personally think that yes they should be fined. I almost think that they should be fined more than twenty dollars, because the whole country is relying on your vote.
