Welcome to week 5

Well Room 5 is loving being in the Learning Centre. There's so much room and it's lovely having the computers on hand. Still it'll be great to be back in our home room which should be happening at the end of the week.
Just a reminder to parents who are free to come and share assemblies with us on Friday morning. The Year 8s organize assembly each week and do such a fine job. You'd be very proud of them. They are proving to be a very mature and responsible group this year. It's wonderful that they take their leadership role so seriously and are so reliable.
We've started our fractions topic in Maths so do encourage your children to use Mathletics when they have a spare moment.
Our next topic for Social Sciences is Carbon Footprints.

Hope your week goes well for you,
God Bless
Kathleen Bradley

Week 4

Well we're in for a few changes this week for sure but nothing we can't cope with. We're very fortunate having access to the learning centre and the equipment housed there.
Please feel welcome to join us on Wednesday at 12 noon for Ash Wednesday Mass at St Mary's
This week I hope we are able to wrap up our Statistics unit in Maths and begin a new unit on Fractions. Please encourage your child to use the Mathletics programme at home because it is an excellent means of reinforcing the work and learning done at school.
The students enjoyed listening to the way music enhanced the movie Jaws. I hope they will continue to do this when they are watching other movies and videos. I was impressed with the way so many of them were able to identify the many different instruments.
In R.E. we are discussing ' social sin' and the impact the European colonization of New Zealand had upon the Maori peoples and how and why for so many years they felt disenchanted by the failure of the Treaty of Waitangi to live up to its promises.
I hope you all have a wonderful week. I'm sure we'll have many excited children at school tomorrow morning with the prospect of school in a tent!
God Bless

A very successful week

What a wonderful week we've just had culminating in Room 5 making lunch for the entire school. I couldn't believe how focussed and organized the students were as they set about making all the combinations of healthy foods. Thanks too to Mrs Cassin for providing the big boxes of bananas and apricots.
I have been so impressed with our new year 8s. They are already proving to be excellent leaders and motivated to run clubs and be part of our wonderful school.
We have been studying symbiotic relationships over the last two weeks and it is pleasing to see many of the students during extra research in their owm time. The parasites aren't all that attractive though.
Next week we are starting a music topic listening to sound tracks of movies and evaluating how successful they are at enhancing the movie.
Don't forget to track your child's progress inMathletics. We are working on Statistics at the moment.
God bless and thank you for your awesome children. You should be very proud to be their parents.
Kathleen Bradley.

Where shall I start? First of all, I was born in March, in the third month of the beginning of the 21st century. I grew up in the Philippines until I was 5 years old, when my parents finally decided to move to New Zealand. I have a sister called Marianne, the most amazing but sometimes annoying sister. Most of the time, I'm at school studying, or I'm in my room playing the guitar. I started studying at St Mary's in 2010. I really like studying at St Mary's because it's a school like no other. It is unique its own special way.
