Zora's story

WHY DOES THE MOTH FLY AROUND AT NIGHT??

By Zora Rodricks

Michelle was scared of everything. Spiders, dogs, birds, and
so many others you could write a book. But the thing she was most terrified of
was... MOTHS!!! Nobody knows why but she couldn’t get over it. As she grew
older she managed to conquer most of her fears, all except for one. Michelle
was still afraid of  moth; a few weeks
after she turned 17 her mum took her to the
fair.

There were games, food and rides. Her entire day was a
buzz.  With a few coins left in her hand
she entered a small  stall near the food
court. An old lady dressed in gauzy clothing was sitting there. “Tell me your
fears.”  Michelle was so entranced by her
voice that she heard herself telling the gypsy everything.  Hearing her fears the gypsy started talking.
“My dear this is how the moth came to be....”

Long ago butterflies were magic. Their wings would change
colour with their mood. They were welcome everywhere; cats would worship them
and dogs would bow down to them. One butterfly in particular was very specia;
she was beautiful. Whatever she wanted she was given. Soon she grew mean and
conceited.

Her wings grew grey and she became fat and lazy.  For she was carried everywhere. Eventually
she stopped going out and all the colour from her body disappeared. She soon
became sorrowful and lonely. She knew she was ugly. To become beautiful again
she went to find light. The daylight was too harsh for her eyes so she went out
at night. Finding little bulbs of light she would fly round them to try and
absorb the light...

“See. You need to feel sorry for them not scared of them.”

Michelle was filled with a new knowledge and thanked the
woman. Leaving the fair with her mum she said “ I think moths are cute.”
